Onegin is a romantic period drama based on a 19th century poem by Russian Alexander Pushkin. The ever handsome Ralph Fiennes plays Evgeny Onegin, an idly rich aristocrat from St. Petersburg who inherits a country estate from a wealthy uncle. During his first summer in residence Onegin quickly becomes bored and begins to toy with the emotions of his rural neighbours, one of whom is the teenage girl Tatyana (Liv Tyler).

Tatyana quickly falls head over heels in love with Onegin, although he responds with indifference. He is too busy luring Tatyana's sister Olga (Lena Heady) away from her fiance Vladimir (Toby Stephens). Insulted, Vladimir insists on a pistol duel. It is a further six years before the soul searching Onegin and Tatyana bump into each other again. An engrossing tale of heartbreak and unrequited love, beautifully directed by Fiennes sister Martha, who captures the potency of a classic piece of literature.
