From May To October

THERE IS VERY little storyline at all to Jennifer Lash's novel, "From May
To October." But the largely uneventful account of six months in
the life of a family that cannot pay its way is lovingly observed.
Characters, dialogue, seasonal colour and small incidents have the authority
of real life, suggesting that the author is perhaps writing from experience
and may in the future use the material of this gently little book for something
grander and stronger.
