Clash of the Titans
Look, Hollywood, we demand more camp in your remakes and reimaginings of classic films. Case in point: Clash of the Titans. While it has excellent action scenes and lots of eye candy (Sam Worthington as Perseus, we’re looking at you), this flick takes itself a little too seriously—save for Ralph Fiennes, who seems to delight in his role as Hades, lord of the underworld.
Stargate Universe (SGU 1.5)
This compilation features the last 10 episodes of the first season of the shot-in-Vancouver sci-fi extravaganza about a lost starship trying to return to Earth, as well as a spate of behind-the-scenes footage, commentary, interviews, video diaries, and a Blu-ray exclusive game.
Loose Screws
Building upon the fine tradition of ridiculous Canadian text comedies (thanks, Porky’s!), this 1985 flick tells the story of a quartet of overly horn teenage boys stuck in summer school and looking to score with anything that moves.
Espion(s)
In this French thriller set in London, Vincent (Guillaume Canet) gets sucked into a web of deception, lies, and sexual intrigue after a coworker is killed by an errant bomb. Naturally the French Secret Service enlists Vincent—an airport bag boy with zero espionage training—to take down a drug trafficker.
The Secret of the Grain
Wanting to leave a legacy for his Arabic family living in southern France, the divorced Slimane Beiji (Habib Boufares) seeks to open a restaurant featuring his ex-wife’s recipes—only to encounter a spate of bureaucracy, undertones of racism from his neighbours, and a lack of support from his sometimes dysfunctional family. |
